Tom Mac Allen
Tom Mac Allen is a 32 year resident of the Cupsaw Lake area of Ringwood, a former Borough Councilman, Vice Chairperson of the Ringwood Planning Board, and past President of C.L.I A. Tom and his wife Arlene have raised two boys, both graduates of the Ringwood public school system. Arlene teaches at the Ringwood Cooperative Nursery School and was also a member of the Ringwood Board of Education's Ad Hoc Committee for Strategic Planning.
Tom is a Professional Engineer, with a Master’s Degree from NJIT. He is currently a Vice President for URS Group Inc., one of the nation's largest engineering firms. A 35 year veteran of the firm, he heads up the Water Resources Department in Wayne, NJ. Mr. Mac Allen is also a graduate of the Municipal Elected Officials Certificate Program, a mainstay in educating municipal officials on their role in local government
Throughout his adult life Mr. MacAllen has given back to the community, starting as a Junior Volunteer Fireman in Glen Rock at the age of 18. He volunteered as a sports coach for the Cupsaw Lake Men's AA, the Ringwood Recreation Program, the Ringwood Rovers soccer team, and the Ramapo Valley Tornados. He also served a four year term on the Ringwood Borough Council (2003 – 2007), was a member and officer of the Ringwood Planning Board, was Director of C.L.I.A., and was a Commodore of Cupsaw's Sailing Club.
As councilman, Tom worked diligently to seek opportunities to lower the cost of government through shared services and streamlining town government without reducing services. He traveled to Trenton to fight for Borough residents whose wells were contaminated with MTBE, and was able to help secure funding for the Oakwood and Wildwood water main. He persistently lobbied the New Jersey Department of Transportation to allow Ringwood to lower the speed limits around the Lakes and succeeded where for years, previous councils had failed.
While on the council, Mr. MacAllen also worked tirelessly on recreation projects. He was instrumental in correcting the drainage problems at the new park in Upper Ringwood; he successfully pushed to have the Borough Recreation Commission fence in the Ryerson fields, finally keeping vandals from driving on the field each winter; he was successful in having the DPW staff line the soccer fields for spring soccer, relieving coaches from this chore each spring; he was part of the Democratic team that secured funding to purchase and improve Martini Field, helping Skyline Lakes pay for their dam repairs, creating a much needed practice field for the Borough.
Mr. Mac Allen has a proven track record of being a dedicated, fiscally responsible public official, working with residents and across party lines for the good of all of Ringwood.
